Cognitive Rehabilitation Programme
Headway Portsmouth and South East Hampshire offers a Cognitive Rehabilitation Programme designed to support individual needs. We work with you enabling you to understand and adjust to the effects of your brain injury, re-learn lost skills, learn new skills, employ strategies and achieve personal progression goals at a pace that suits you.
Our Cognitive Rehabilitation Programme runs for 10 weeks
Aims:
- To increase knowledge of Brain Physiology with reference to Brain injury
- To improve understanding of Brain injury and its effects
- To understand the importance of good communication and to explore alternative forms of communication
- To raise awareness of difficulties experienced with family, friends and loved ones.
- To improve understanding of behaviour patterns and to develop personalised Behaviour Management strategies
- To improve understanding of the function and process of memory and develop personalised strategies.
- To look at the cognitive/executive skills needed to plan ahead and develop personal strategies
This programme is designed to challenge, encourage and improve executive skills which may have been lost as a result of brain injury and contribute to improved cognitive ability. The programme is delivered at our Cognitive Rehabilitation Centre at the Mountbatten Centre. This is a social setting, in a safe and comfortable environment where you can feel relaxed. Enrolment is available throughout the year.
Should you choose to use our service, self referral or referral by a professional i.e. Adult Services are accepted. Once referred, you will be invited to attend an initial assessment where we discuss and agree outcomes and tailor a programme to meet your needs.
Costs can be met through Direct Payments from Adult Services, from your personal budget provided by Adult Services or funded privately. If you need help and advice finding funding please contact us direct.

Sessions last for two hours once a week and are based at the Mountbatten Centre.
Independent Lifestyles (Health and Well being) Programme
Our Independent Lifestyle (Health and Wellbeing) programme enables you to maximise your independence following brain injury by providing training support with daily living skills; support in building self-esteem and confidence. In addition we offer practical support in accessing community facilities; managing everyday tasks such as budgeting and money management, good nutrition and exercise to achieve improved fitness and well-being.
Aims:
- To improve understanding of good nutrition and food choices
- To increase knowledge of heart health, high blood pressure and diabetes
- To Improve confidence to access sport and leisure activities
- To improve understanding of health, well-being and independence.
